Just to the west of I-45 and 28 miles north of Houston, The Woodlands is made up of multiple villages. Each village operates as a small town on its own with shopping centers, community organizations, schools systems, recreational offerings, healthcare facilities and churches. The Woodlands is located mostly in Montgomery County and is a heavily forested area. Its trees give the area its namesake and provide shade and decoration for local residents and businesses.

The Woodlands Waterway is similar to the River Walk in San Antonio and will eventually be more than 1/2 mile long with lit sidewalks on both sides and Waterway Taxis. Market Street resembles an old-fashioned main street and The Woodlands Mall is adjacent to it and the waterway, resulting in a large walking shopping district.
