The currency of productivity is time. We all want to get more done in a single day, but how? For many, the answer is commuting via alternative transportation. Besides, traffic is stressful!

Average Commute Times in minutes

The average trip duration in these heavily populated cities represents an untapped opportunity for the person commuting in their own vehicle. Who can’t use an average of 20 more minutes; 40 if we’re talking round trip?!

However, opening up a laptop in the back of a leg crunched cab while swaying through the turns en route to a destination is not most people’s first impulse.

We mentioned in a previous blog post how many people prefer to take care of business on their daily commute. Here is an excerpt from that blog:

Americans who commute via public transportation save about 646 million hours each year! In addition, a recent article by Urban Insight Inc., states that employees, who travel to work via public transportation, prefer to handle work related business during the commute.”

waiting on a cab to commute to your officeWaiting on a bus or cab can give you a chance to check your voice mail and make phone calls. Traveling in a bus or cab can give you a chance to break open your favorite mobile device and tend to business. All things we pray, you’re not doing while driving your own vehicle!

It’s in response to the mounting evidence that many businesses now offer incentives to their employees to use public transportation. For instance, many will pay half the cost for a bus pass or mileage on cab fare.

Truth is, statistics show the majority of people don’t really want to drive per say. They want to get to where they want to go, in life and at work.
